Contra Costa County Hosting 5 Events to Celebrate Martin Luther King
Residents are invited to join in the celebrations, including the 37th Annual Celebration and Humanitarian Awards in Martinez.

Contra Costa County is hosting five events over the next two days to honor the legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., officials with District 1 Supervisor John Gioia’s office said.
Starting at 9 a.m. today, residents will have the opportunity to work on a number of volunteer projects in Richmond as well as provide input on the Unity Park Project.
Residents can register for volunteer work at the Greenway at Sixth Street and Ohio Avenue or on 16th Street starting at 9 a.m. Work will continue there until about 1 p.m. Starting at 9:30 a.m., El Cerrito residents will meet in the parking lot of the El Cerrito Department of Motor Vehicle’s office at 6400 Manila Ave., behind City Hall.

From there residents will march in a parade to El Cerrito High School at 540 Ashbury Ave. and participate in a rally and program from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
At 10:50 a.m. today in Richmond the Century 16 Hilltop movie theatre is showing “Selma” to the public on a first come, first served basis. The movie is free for children with school identification. The cost for adults is $7. For people needing transportation, a bus will leave Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church at 684 Juliga Woods St. in Richmond at 10 a.m.

Everyone is welcome in Hercules today to help beautify the Hercules Library.
Lastly, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is holding the 37th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Humanitarian Awards at 651 Pine St. in Martinez. Entertainment and lunch will be provided at the ceremony.
