Here are the top five stories in Concord today:

  1. Concord Assemblyman Tim Grayson announced that he is introducing legislation to regulate cryptocurrency. The bill is sponsored by the Consumer Federation of California. According to Grayson's press release, AB2269 is intended to help stabilize the cryptocurrency market through "requirements around customer service and disclosures, and a requirement that licensees act in the best interest of a customer when they recommend a cryptocurrency," (Fairfield Daily Republic)
  2. Inland communities throughout most of the Bay Area, including Concord, will be under an excessive heat watch during daytime hours today when temperatures are expected to top out at 103 degrees, the National Weather Service Bay Area said. "The combination of warm nights and hot days will be most prevalent on Friday. This heat event is forecast to be fairly short in duration with Friday being the hottest day for the interior portions of the Bay Area and Central Coast." (Concord Patch)
  3. With more than 68% of the vote, on Tuesday voters passed Measure G, a $1 annual fee for registered vehicles to support the county's vehicle abatement program, removing and disposing of abandoned and wrecked vehicles. This could be helpful for story No. 4 in today's Daily. Read on. (Claycord.com)
  4. A driver abandoned his vehicle after lodging it squarely into a home in the 2000 block of Alhambra Avenue in Martinez on Wednesday. From the look of the car, this is not its first brush with something stationary. The home sustained major damage and a gas leak was evident, so homeowners were evacuated from the assaulted home as well as nearby structures. Cops are still looking for the driver of the vehicle. (Claycord.com)
  5. I guess the issues and offices that were up for vote Thursday failed to excite the masses. Fewer than 18% of Contra Contra County voters cast ballots in the California Primary Election! If you are now remotely curious as to how things sorted themselves out, you can see preliminary results on the races and issues in this article from The Pioneer. (Pioneer Publishers)

Are you a Concord resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
