Here are the top four stories today in Concord:
- Headed out on vacation this summer? Might as well fly! The cost of driving is getting to be comparable. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas in California is now $5.84, which is $1.44 more than the National average, according to AAA. Contra Costa County's average price is $5.89 a gallon. (Claycord.com)
- The Contra Costa Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a $5.4 million budget bump for Contra Costa CARES. They delayed decisions for the rest of the $59 million they have left from their pandemic relief funds. The board also approved the public defender's office request to fund three more positions. - Investigators assigned to Golden Gate Division's Organized Retail Crime Task Force (ORCTF) executed a search warrant on a home in Pittsburg. There they found stolen retail merchandise from CVS Health, Target, RiteAid, Safeway, Sunglass Hut, Macy's, Total Wine and More, Lululemon, and several other retailers. They arrested Julio Cuellar, 45, of Pittsburg, and booked him into Solano County Jail on several charges, including organized retail theft and conspiracy. (East County Today)
- On Tuesday, May 10, the Antioch City Council, on a 3-1-1 vote approved spending $12.3 million to lease the Executive Inn on E. 18th Street for transitional housing for homeless residents. The budget covers 5 years and may be partially funded by HomeKey program funds. (Antioch Herald)

- The Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar at Willows Shopping Center in Concord is rolling out a new menu May 18 with such highlights as street-corn fries, "Spacedust" wings and a childhood-throwback cocktail — the "Tang Margarita" — a drink inspired from NASA's use on the 1962 Mercury flight and Gemini missions. With the exception of the Margarita everything else sounds delicious! (Concord Patch)
- Love the history of Contra Costa and the Bay Area? Then this sale is for you! The Contra Costa County Historical Society will hold a book sale on May 21. The sale will consist of primarily history-oriented books about Contra Costa County, the greater San Francisco Bay Area, and California. (Pioneer Publishers)
- Cancer Support Community SF Bay area is holding their annual Hope Walk on May 21 in Heather Farm Park, Walnut Creek. All funds earned or donated will go to support free programs (nutrition, exercise, educational classes and support groups, counseling) for cancer patients and their families. (Pioneer Publishers)
