Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- Contra Costa County has been exempted from the statewide indoor mask mandate. New guidance came out late Tuesday from the state which will allow things to continue as they are in San Francisco, San Mateo, and Contra Costa counties because of existing mandates. Those at certain gyms and offices in the county will be allowed to unmask. (ABC7)
- The driver of a stolen pickup truck sought by Moraga police Tuesday suddenly fled into Canyon, colliding with two other cars and pinching off access to the community for several hours. The vehicle was not being actively pursued by police at the time of the collision. Police arrived on scene and took the pickup's driver into custody after he initially refused to obey officers' orders. He was taken to the hospital for observation. (News 24/680)
- On Wednesday morning, the Brentwood Police officers were dispatched to a report of a body found on Sand Creek Trail in the City of Brentwood. Brentwood Police on scene confirmed the death appears suspicious in nature but said it was too early in the investigation to release any details. (East County Today)
- Contra Costa County had a "moderate" level of coronavirus transmission as of Dec. 13, according to the CDC. There were 31.9 new cases per 100,000 residents between Dec. 6-12. - The Contra Costa Community College District Governing Board Wednesday considered approving a memorial in honor of Kathleen Costa, the former dean of the Diablo Valley College San Ramon campus who died from cancer last year. The district's Facilities Naming Committee voted on Nov. 29 to move a request for a memorial plaque and stone dedicated to Costa forward to the governing board. If approved, the memorial plaque and stone would be situated outside of the campus' new library and academic support center, and paid for by Costa's husband, Steve Pantell. (Danvillesanramon.com)
