Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. If the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office calls and says that you'll be arrested unless you give them money, don't believe it! It's a scam. The Sheriff's Office does not ask for money over the phone. But the real Sheriff's Office is warning that scamming incidents are on the rise. If you believe you are being scammed, hang up the phone and then call the Sheriff's Office to confirm and report the incident. (Patch)
  2. With all of the precipitation we've gotten lately, Con Fire says the fire season is over. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't remain vigilant in your prevention efforts. "With nearly year-round fire danger, our fire risks in Contra Costa County are very real. I urge all residents to continue to practice fire safety in all outdoor activities and to plan well ahead of the typical spring-months arrival of fire danger for weed abatement and defensible space creation around their properties," Con Fire Chief Lewis Broschard said. (Claycord.com)
  3. A tractor-trailer crash on SR-4 near Martinez resulted in a fatality early Monday morning. The vehicle left the roadway "traveling up the right side embankment, then veered across the lanes and collided with the center median." The male driver was taken to a local hospital, but succumbed to his injuries. (East County Today)
  4. Four San Ramon schools earned the distinction of Blue Ribbon Schools. This honor was bestowed by the U.S. Department of Education in September and they have now officially received their awards. "With four Blue Ribbon winners this year, SRVUSD had more schools awarded than any other single district in the state or the nation." (danvillesanramon.com)
