Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. Creatures-Con 2023 will take place at the Concord Plaza Hotel on August 13. "The guest list features Sara Karloff, John Russo, David J. Skal, John Stanley, Tom Wyrsch, along with Frank Dietz. Also on the list are Tony Valla and Miss Misery. Event founder, Lord Blood-Rah, will once again host the event." (8Bit/Digi)
  2. On January 19 the Concord Planning Commission will conduct a special meeting to consider an application for a cannabis retail storefront. The general public is invited to attend.   3. Trees are down everywhere as a result of this series of atmospheric rivers we've been dealing with. Here's a picture of a particularly impressive stately one that didn't survive the storm over in Walnut Creek on Oak Grove Road near North Gate Road. It's hardly the only tree down, though. Dozens littered our roadways in the past couple of weeks. Thanks to the responders who get them broken down and cleared out in record time! (Claycord.com)
  4. The City of Lafayette closed a portion of St. Mary's Road in both directions today for emergency roadwork due to storm damage. The road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Detours will be in place at Rheem Boulevard and Rohrer Drive. (News 24/680)
  5. Government officials in Washington D.C. currently don't plan to host in-person public hearings on the Delta Tunnel project. On Thursday "Representative Josh Harder (CA-9) sent a letter to the Lieutenant General Scott A. Spellmon of the Army Corps of Engineers demanding his body reverse its' decisions not to host in-person public hearings on the proposed Delta Tunnel project and extend the public comment period by an additional 60 days." The tunnel would send water from the Sacramento Delta to the Central Valley. (Contra Costa News)
