Fire At Concord Storage Lot Destroys RVs, Trailers

A total of 13 vehicles were destroyed or damaged in the fire.

CONCORD, CA — Crews knocked down a fire at a Concord storage yard but not before the blaze destroyed or damaged multiple RVs and other vehicles, an official with Contra Costa County Fire Protection District told Patch. The fire at a vehicle storage lot on Solano Way near Arnold Industrial Place — just south of state Highway 4 near Buchanan Field Airport — fully destroyed three RVs and two large trailers, and damaged at least a half-dozen others, said Con Fire Spokesman Steve Hill.

Firefighters from Con Fire and Buchanan Field Airport responded to the fire that was initially reported at about 1:12 p.m. Thursday as one RV on fire, Hill told Patch.

"We got here and we found three large RVs on fire in a large, mixed-use vehicle storage lot," Hill said. "The fire spread to 13 vehicles: two very large trailers, a couple of SUVs and some vans."

The fire started in the storage yard but did spread to some trees and vegetation outside the fence line of the property, he said.

"Thanks to an overwhelming and immediate response, we were able to stop the fire from spreading any farther to any structures," Hill said.

Con Fire had six engine crews, a truck and a heavy rescue unit on scene, while Buchanan Field Airport had one engine crew on scene, according to Hill.

The cause of the fire was being investigated, he said.
