🌱Danville Municipal Election Canceled + EBMUD To Pay $816K Penalty

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, everybody. It's Wednesday in Concord and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on the most important things happening in our community today. Here's the lowdown.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 87 Low: 59.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top five stories today in Concord:

  1. During a major rainstorm in October 2021, EBMUD released 16.5 million gallons of partially treated wastewater into the San Francisco Bay. The utility said that it had run out of the chemical used to remove chlorine from the water so the discharge contained chlorine in amounts that were toxic to aquatic life. EBMUD will pay a penalty of $816,000 for the release, $379,000 of which will go to the State Water Pollution Cleanup and Abatement Account and another $408,000 will go toward a supplemental environmental project. "This enforcement serves as a reminder to always be prepared," said SF Bay Regional Water Board Assistant Executive Officer Thomas Mumley. "The reliable operation of our wastewater infrastructure is critical, particularly in light of the increasingly severe winter storms we are experiencing due to climate change." (Claycord.com)
  2. Pleasant Hill Police are searching for a missing teen. Lila Petrik was last seen in pajamas and authorities say she may have left her home with a friend. The two may be headed to Antioch. Petrik is described as a white female with long brown hair standing about 5-foot-4 and weighing about 110 pounds. If you see Lila, please contact the Pleasant Hill Police non-emergency line at 925-288-4600 or your local Police Agency. (Claycord.com)
  3. The Town of Danville just saved taxpayers close to $100 grand. They did that by canceling the November 8 municipal election and appointing the only two candidates to the two open council seats. From the Town of Danville "In a special meeting on Tuesday, August 23, the Danville Town Council adopted a resolution canceling the November 8, Municipal Election and appointing the only two candidates nominated to the two council seats that would have appeared on the ballot. ... Karen Stepper and Robert Storer were appointed to four-year terms and will be formally sworn in at the annual Mayor's Installation and Community Service Awards on December 6." (News 24/680)
  4. On Monday the Antioch Chamber of Commerce cut the ribbon on a new Small Business Investment Center. Partnering with CoCo Farms and Travis Credit Union the goal is to help fund 100 small businesses with a three-year pilot program. CoCo Farms has provided a $25,000 grant for the program while Travis Credit Union will provide courses on financial literacy to the participants. Mayor Lamar Thorpe also committed to match the funding provided by CoCo Farms out of City funds set aside for small businesses. (East County Today)
  5. County Supervisor Karen Mitchoff reminds you that fire season is not over! Make sure you maintain the defensible space around your home and keep a go-bag ready. Don't forget to check your fire alarms regularly and change the batteries, she said. To learn more about how to prepare for wildfires, visit https://cccfpd.org/wildfire-prep. (Pioneer Publishers)
