Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. De La Salle bested the Folsom Bulldogs 17-14 in the 1-AA Northern California Bowl championship on Friday. It was almost a year to the day when the Spartans faced a bitter defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs, but this time it was sweet victory. Next up? "They'll play the Southern California champion Lincoln-San Diego for the state title on Dec. 9 at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo. " (Scorebook Live)
  2. "Santa Claus will be back in Concord this holiday season after a couple of years of COVID-19 restrictions that made it difficult for kids to crawl up on his lap and make their case that they've been good boys and girls over the last year." Here's where you can find him in and around the Concord area: Patch.
  3. BART is expected to show nine-figure annual deficits over the next few years. If service was cut enough to cover those losses, it would send the transit company into a "death spiral," according to officials. "The agency's budget officials argued that BART cannot realistically make cuts to its operating costs to fully close those deficits because rail transit has high fixed costs — in BART's case, roughly 30 percent of its overall operating costs are fixed." "Ultimately, BART's future depends on working to develop a funding model that includes more public investment so that we are less reliant on passenger fares," BART financial planning director Michael Eiseman said. (Claycord.com)
  4. A shooting was reported on Friday night around Contra Costa Boulevard and Ellinwood Drive in Pleasant Hill. Traffic on Contra Costa Boulevard going toward the Sunvalley Mall was blocked for a time. One victim reportedly sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A suspect was detained and authorities say there is no longer a threat to the general public. (Claycord.com)
  5. Did you make it out to Concord's tree lighting and the mayor's sing-along? If not, The Pioneer has a few pictures so you can live vicariously. Everybody sure looks like they had a good time! (Pioneer Publishers)
