Here are the top five stories today in Concord:
- One person is dead and four sustained major injuries in a crash on Highway 160 North of the Antioch Bridge. A San Ramon man driving a Mazda with three children inside may have been intoxicated and was driving erratically, witnesses say, when he crossed the double yellow line and collided with an Audi driving in the other direction. The driver of the Audi, a 71-year-old Rio Vista woman sustained major injuries as did a 4-year-old boy and a 6-year-old boy riding in the backseat of the Mazda and a 15-year-old girl riding in the passenger's seat of the Mazda. The investigation into the crash is ongoing. (Claycord.com)
- According to a post on the CHP-Golden Gate Division Air Operations' Facebook page, Monday afternoon, CHP helicopter "H-30 ... assisted Con Fire and San Ramon Valley Fire with an injured mountain biker on Mount Diablo." H-30 was able to locate the rider who was ejected off the trail. The helicopter landed near the rider and personnel assisted until firefighters arrived at the scene." (Contra Costa Herald)
- San Ramon father and son partners in crime are on the hook to pay $12 million in restitution within the next 90 days for their roles in embezzling medical equipment owned by Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Health Plan, Inc. The father, Steven John Montanelli, was also sentenced to five years probation and his son, Anthony Giovanni Montanelli was sentenced to a year and a day in prison. (East County Today)
- According to East County Today, on Tuesday the average cost for a gallon of gas in Contra Costa County was $6.27 per gallon — up from $6.14 a week ago. Meanwhile, the state average in California sits at $6.16. Nationally, gas prices stand at $4.62 per gallon. Geez, we have that huge refinery right here in Martinez. Can't we get a break? - Orinda resident Lilia Ibabao is celebrating her 95th birthday at Santa Maria Church in Orinda, June 25! The 50-plus-year resident of Orinda has celebrated her 25th, 50th and 60th wedding anniversary with masses at the church. This month she celebrates her 95th birthday with a mass and a celebration afterwards. Happy Birthday Lilia! (The Orinda News)
