Sunny and warm. High: 92 Low: 62.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top five stories in Concord today:

  1. Temperatures will be approaching record highs through Thursday. Weather Service officials advise you to stay indoors in an air-conditioned space and drink plenty of fluids. Take extra care with pets and livestock. Make sure they have plenty of water and be careful of their feet on hot surfaces. (Claycord.com)
  2. About 3,000 visitors came to the Pleasant Hill Library ribbon cutting and open house on July 30. The new 25,000 square foot library is home to 60,000 books. Pleasant Hill Mayor Harris praised the key people, such as the Friends of the Library and the construction company and landscapers who were instrumental in making the library a reality. "Our stakeholders provided us the impetus to move this project forward, but these folks were the boots on the ground who brought the idea to life," Harris said. "They brought the project in on time and within cost," he added. (Pioneer Publishers)
  3. Opportunity Junction, a Contra Costa non-profit is looking for folks to participate in its workforce development programs. People interested in administrative careers and nursing assistant roles are encouraged to apply. According to East County Today "the Administrative Careers Training (ACT) and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) courses will be offered in person at no cost for low-income motivated job seekers who wish to pursue sustainable careers in administrative or health care fields." 4. A ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Concord Chamber of Commerce for Coastal Dispensary, Concord's premier adult-use cannabis storefront and delivery service, took place on August 10. The storefront is located at 1847 Willow Pass Road. The ribbon cutting was attended by several Concord dignitaries, including Mayor Aliano. "We are extremely excited and honored to be one of Concord's first adult-use retailers and to bring our first-class customer experience to the community. As one of the only dispensaries in the region, we take our responsibility seriously. We believe in the importance of working together as an industry and are committed to being a thoughtful, trusted, and responsible community partner," stated Julian Michalowski, co-founder and CEO of Coastal. An official grand opening is scheduled for September 1. (Canada NewsWire)
  5. More details are emerging about the fatal crash on Highway 4 Monday night. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Honda Accord and a Camaro were traveling eastbound on Highway 4. The driver of the Camaro collided with the side of the Accord, causing the Honda to pull to the side of the highway. The Camaro continued eastbound and was subsequently hit from behind by a Suburban causing the Camaro to crash. The driver of the Camaro was pronounced dead at the scene.
