Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. The Northern California coast and the Bay Area took the brunt of the latest atmospheric river. Today should be drier, so we can assess the damage from the storms and dry out a little before the next wave comes through. Santa Cruz evacuated the wharf and part of the Capitola pier was washed away. The North Bay had evacuations, as the Russian River crested its banks. Parts of Contra Costa were also under a flood warning as of Thursday afternoon. (CBS San Francisco)
  2. "A downed tree was blocking BART's train tracks between the Concord and Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre stations amid Wednesday's stormy weather." The trains were impacted in both the Antioch and San Francisco directions, causing major delays. While the tracks were not obstructed, operators determined that the downed tree was close enough to the tracks that trains could not safely pass. (Patch)
  3. Contra Costa Health formally requested the District Attorney to consider taking legal action against the Martinez Refinery Company "after the refinery released more than 20 tons of metal-laden dust into the community over the Thanksgiving holiday." The DA has approximately 30 days to decide whether to take up the case. (Claycord.com)
  4. East County police departments are asking people to be on the lookout for a serial robber in the area. Police believe the same robber hit 7-Eleven stores in both Oakley and Brentwood. (Claycord.com)
  5. Save Mount Diablo is offering 36 "Discover Diablo" excursions throughout 2023. These are free public hikes and outings, beginning on January 21. "The Discover Diablo program was started by Save Mount Diablo in 2017 to connect local communities with the spectacular natural world of the Mount Diablo area and to build awareness about land conservation." (Contra Costa News)
