Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. A dramatic scene unfolded at Nordstrom Rack in Pleasant Hill on Tuesday and into Wednesday. A suspect, wanted for rape and domestic violence and driving what was believed to be a stolen vehicle, was being pursued by police . At the end of the pursuit, the suspect stopped his vehicle at the Sunvalley Shopping Center and fled into the Nordstrom Rack. Police evacuated the Nordstrom Rack and the Safeway next door without incident. The suspect continued to evade authorities until Wednesday morning, when Nordstrom Rack loss prevention officers saw the suspect lower himself from the store attic and try to flee. They tackled him and he was put under arrest without incident. He has been identified as 26-year-old Concord resident Joseph Alan Ramos. (Claycord.com)
  2. It's pediatric cancer awareness month and the Martinez PD is stepping up to help. They are selling Martinez Police patches, and all proceeds will go toward helping those with pediatric cancer. The patches are $10 and can be purchased at the Martinez Police Department's front counter, 525 Henrietta St., Martinez, Mon. – Fri. 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (Claycord.com)
  3. If you're interested in hearing from the candidates for City Council or Treasurer for Concord, head over to the Council Chambers at Concord City Hall tonight at 6. According to The Pioneer, "Candidates will field questions from moderator Tamara Steiner, chair of the Chamber's Government and Economic Policy Committee. Audience members can submit their own questions, as well." (Pioneer Publishers)
  4. Join business leaders, Diablo Valley College faculty and staff, community organizers and elected officials in a discussion about the future of Diablo Valley. The Diablo Valley Tech Initiative and Diablo Valley College "invite you to join a discussion about how to enable the Diablo Valley to cultivate and benefit from a thriving technology sector." This special presentation will take place at Diablo Valley College on Friday, September 30. Coffee and pastries will be provided by DVC Culinary Arts starting at 8 am. (dvti.org)
  5. Looking for ways to get out and enjoy this gorgeous autumn? The Pioneer published the fall calendar of amazing things to do in Concord and surrounding areas. Yup! • It's almost time for the 5th annual Pittsburg Fishing Derby! The event will take place October 15 & 16. This is a target tournament, and anglers will be fishing for striped bass and sturgeon both on-shore and off-shore. You can register online here in September 2022 or in person (only on Saturday 10/15 from 8am-noon) at the Judge's Station at the Pittsburg boat launch ramps.
  • It's almost Halloween, so it must be time to make a monster! At least that's what the Lafayette Library thinks. Design your monster and then send it to them, or bring it to them in person and they'll display it at the library! Visitors will pick their fan favorites in two age categories (5th-8th, 9th-12th). Fan favorite artists will receive an artist's life-sized human skull model and a boba tea gift card. Time to get creepy!
