Here are the top five stories today in Concord:

  1. Want to light up the summer for a little one in your life? Try an "Encanto" Sing Along at the Concord Pavilion! According to the press release, the "one-of-a-kind" event promises a simultaneous film and concert experience, with a live on-stage band accompanying Disney's hit animated film as it plays in its entirety. It's coming to the Pavilion on July 21. That sounds like the kind of show that will make you a hero in the eyes of a child. Tickets for the tour will be available for purchase 10 a.m. local time Friday (April 29). (Billboard)
  2. Speaking of being a hero, there are heroes everywhere in this story from the Antioch Herald. The Antioch Chamber of Commerce started a program to give back to Antioch businesses called "The Chamber Cares." It is designed to allow the Chamber to award small checks to local business owners who have been impacted by theft and vandalism. The Chamber recently gave a $1000 check to SERVPRO after the business was hit with vandalism and the theft of a truck. In an online message SERVPRO owner Mike Borders wrote, "SERVPRO Antioch and myself are extremely appreciative of the Antioch Chamber of Commerce, The Chamber Cares Program and Sean Wright for your help. I am tired of the constant theft and break-ins that I experience and that I see others experiencing. This hurts us all. Fortunately, I have great insurance with Jim Lanter State Farm... I have chosen to re-donate this $1,000 back to the Chamber Cares Program so it can help another Antioch business that may have to endure something greater than what I have experienced." People helping people helping people. Those are the heroes of the community of Antioch. (Antioch Herald)
  3. A man is in critical but stable condition at a local hospital after being found inside his vehicle with gunshot wounds to his chest. Using the city's public safety surveillance system, police determined the shooting took place near the intersection of Thomas Way and Crestview Drive. Police said on the department's Facebook page that the shooting may be related to a road-rage incident that occurred 30 minutes prior to police finding the victim. They ask anyone with information to contact the Pittsburg Police Department tip line at (925) 252-4040. (Claycord.com)
  4. At its meeting tonight, the Antioch City council will decide whether to institute a "grace period" into an ordinance that was passed last month banning the sale of certain tobacco products. Retailers have asked the city for such a grace period in order for them to sell out the inventory they have on hand. The grace period could be used to educate the community on the ordinance. The Antioch City Council meets at 7 p.m. at the city council chamber, at 200 H Street in Antioch. The meeting can also be seen at www.antiochca.gov. (Claycord.com)
  5. The 25th Annual Clayton Business and Community Association Art and Wine Festival was back last weekend and it was a rip roarin' success! Event chair Sandy Johnson was euphoric on Monday morning. "I would say it was a spectacular event." Early estimates have this year's event nearly 40% bigger than 2019. All funds raised by CBCA events support scholarships, local charities, and city projects. The next CBCA event is a two-day BBQ Cook Off July 9-10 followed by the annual Oktoberfest Oct. 1-2. (Pioneer Publishers)
