- An excessive heat watch has been issued for Contra Costa County for today. Some portions of Contra Costa, Alameda and Santa Clara counties, including Concord, could find themselves in "Record or near record heat with many temperatures 100 to 105," forecasters said. The driver left the roadway about 6:29 p.m. went down an embankment and collided with a tree. The car burst into flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The offramp was closed for about two hours while authorities investigated. (News 24/680)
- Karen Mitchoff will be retiring from the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors in January of 2023. Mitchoff has represented Clayton, Concord, Pleasant Hill, part of Walnut Creek, and the unincorporated Contra Costa Centre since 2010. Her retirement will mark the first time since 2006 that a seat will be open. Five candidates entered the race for the seat, but it is now down to Ken Carlson and Deborah Allen. Mitchoff is endorsing Carlson. Read about her reflections on the job and her take on the challenges ahead in this article from Walnut Creek Magazine. (Walnut Creek Magazine)
