PG&E confirmed that a construction crew not affiliated with PG&E dug into a 4-inch steel PG&E gas line at a Concord construction site around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, causing a fire.
PG&E immediately sent crews and the flow of gas from the line was stopped at 12:15 p.m., PG&E Spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian told Patch.
The gas fire damaged electrical lines in the area, prompting an outage that started at 11:11 a.m. and impacted 1,125 customers. Service was restored to the bulk of customers within 20 minutes, Sarkissian said. There were a remaining 147 customers without power as of 1 p.m., she said.
"The technique we used to stop the flow of gas prevented customers from losing gas service," Sarkissian said.
