Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- Weather service forecasters are predicting extreme heat for Labor Day weekend. "The East Bay could see 105 to 110 between the Livermore/Concord area eastward towards Discovery Bay/Byron Airport. Farther south, Morgan Hill and Gilroy are forecast around 105." They are also warning of increased fire risk due to the hot, dry conditions. "After several days of strong heat, conditions will be much drier which may introduce some level of fire weather risk," the weather service said. "Drier fuels make for easier fire starts related to human activity." (CBS San Francisco)
- Refuge Food Pantry is a coalition of churches, organizations and individuals who are on a mission to end food insecurity in the Monument Corridor neighborhood. They are looking for volunteers. Per The Pioneer: "Volunteer your time and your talent. Donate your resources. One hour of your time means one more meal for a neighbor in need. The food pantry is fully funded by the generosity of Partners like you and grants." Sign up to volunteer or donate at https://refugecares.com/foodpantry/ or send email to foodpantry@refugecares.com (Pioneer Publishers)
- The Pioneer has updated its event calendar for the rest of the summer (and a few things in the fall). Learn about Walnut Creek's Eco Fair, park cleanups, Octoberfest and more! Maybe I'll see you at the Live Strong Health Expo! (Pioneer Publishers)
- Tri Delta Transit will welcome a new CEO as current CEO Jeanne Krieg passes the baton after 32 years at the agency. The transit company Board of Directors unanimously selected Rashidi Barnes as Tri Delta Transit's new CEO. He will assume his duties on September 7. Krieg will take on the title of CEO Transitional Officer until she retires officially in February after a long and distinguished career. (East County Today)
- Five candidates are in the running for the three vacant seats on the Orinda City Council. There are no incumbents in this race, so there will be more work for us to do to learn about the candidates and their positions on issues. This article from The Orinda News is a great start! It lists each of the candidates, where they come from and what issues they prioritize. (The Orinda News)
