Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- Just when you thought it was safe to go outside ... another atmospheric river is upon us and is expected to last through tomorrow. We could end up with 3-4 inches of rain in the Bay Area. We're not getting the brunt of it, though. That's reserved for coastal communities. "A coastal flood advisory has been issued along the coast and around the Bays starting at 3 a.m. Saturday and continuing through 9 a.m. Monday." I don't know about you, but this month of weather is getting a little tedious for me. (Concord Patch)
- Antioch Police were able to de-escalate a potentially lethal situation during a traffic stop of a man who identified himself as "a sovereign citizen." Engaging the man in conversation, they were able to get him to peacefully exit his vehicle. Upon a search of the car, police found a Glock pistol that had been altered to be fully automatic. The suspect was taken into custody. (Claycord.com)
- A scary situation unfolded at Acalanes High School in Lafayette on Friday. School officials and medical personnel were able to use Narcan to reverse a suspected fentanyl overdose in one of the students. "The afflicted student revived and taken to a local hospital for additional treatment." (News 24/680)
- Nine elementary schools in San Ramon were among 356 schools throughout the state to be named 2023 California Distinguished Schools. "California Distinguished Schools represent examples of not just excellent teaching, learning, and collaboration, but also highly successful, data-driven school efforts ranging from professional development for educators to mental health and social-emotional wellness strategies to address the needs of students and families," said Tony Thurmond, state superintendent of public instruction. - "Ann Moser, Apprentice Master Beekeeper, will give a brief history of beekeeping and take us on a deep dive into what goes on inside and outside the bee hive. Learn how vital honeybees are to our food chain and bonus, we will end the gathering with a dash of honey tasting!" The event takes place at the Crockett Library on January 21.
