Morning, Concord! It's me, Jeri Karges, your host of the Concord Daily. Let's get this weekend started off right, with a quick dive into everything you need to know about what's happening these days in town.
First, today's weather:

Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- Fire broke out on Kirker Pass Road on Friday between the cities of Concord and Pittsburg, with multiple agencies responding. Kirker Pass Road was shut down. As of this writing the fire had not yet been contained, but no structures threatened. Kirker Pass Road was still closed in both directions. (East County Today)
- Congressman Mark DeSaulnier will host a virtual town hall on Wednesday, June 29 at 7 p.m. The subject will be "Contra Costa's Progress in Reducing Crime and the Work Ahead to End Gun Violence Across the Country." The event will be held on Zoom and will be streamed live on Congressman DeSaulnier's Facebook page facebook.com/repmarkdesaulnier. (Claycord.com)
- The California Highway Patrol closed Carquinez Scenic Drive at Scenic Drive, at Winslow Street and at Canyon Lake Drive on Thursday as crews battled fires in Port Costa and Pleasanton. Commanders estimated the size of the Port Costa fire to be 50 acres. The Pleasanton Police Department advised residents living in the area of Golden Eagle Way to evacuate due to the fire on the Pleasanton Ridge as that fire engulfed a building and 10 - 15 acres of land. - According to a news release from Contra Costa Health Services "Contra Costa Health (CCH) reaffirmed its commitment to reproductive health rights and to ensure that all county residents may access safe, compassionate care, including abortion services. 'The ability to access reproductive care – and to maintain autonomy over our own bodies – is essential to the health and wellbeing of everyone in our community,' said Karen Mitchoff, chair of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. 'I remember a time when we did not have the right to choose. Here in Contra Costa County, we will do everything we can to not go back to those days.'" (East County Today)
- Summerfest in Danville is back! For the first time since the pandemic, the town will host the event. It will kick off today with a health and wellness fair under the slogan "Let's Get Back to Living" sponsored by ValleyCare. The festivities will include crafts and food vendors, a business expo and there will be a classic car show on Sunday to round out the weekend. (danvillesanramon.com/ subscription may be required)

- Attention Lime Ridge hikers and bikers, as of May 1, several trails in Lime Ridge (on the Walnut Creek side) are closed due to PG&E undergrounding the existing power lines in the area. The construction project is scheduled to be completed mid-July. The trail closures include portions of the Paraiso Trail, Ohlone Trail and the Timberleaf Trail. - Celebrate America's 246th Independence Day and 171st birthday of naming of Antioch on July 4th! There will be a pancake breakfast, crafts & vendors, a kids zone, live music, parade and fireworks!
