  • The California Association of African American Superintendents and Administrators named two East County award recipients.
  • The Antioch-Pittsburg San Joaquins Passenger Stop will be decommissioned.
  • The county's César E. Chávez Commemorative Celebration will be shown live on Contra Costa Television.

Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. Crews are working fast to repair the damage done by the last storm, as the next one makes its way to the Bay Area. Temperatures are forecast to be colder than usual over the weekend. Napa is being warned that a freeze is possible, which is not good news, since the spring bud break already began. A new storm system is set to hit at the beginning of next week, when wind and rain are forecast to blanket the Bay Area. We just can't seem to get a break from Mother Nature! (Claycord.com)
  2. Former Dublin warden Ray Garcia was sentenced to 70 months in prison for his conviction on December 8, 2022, for "sexually abusive conduct against three inmates and for lying to federal agents." When Garcia is released from prison, he will be required to register as a sex offender. (Claycord.com)
  3. Dr. Adam Clark, superintendent of Mt. Diablo Unified School District, was named Superintendent of the Year by the California Association of African American Superintendents and Administrators (CAAASA). Pittsburg's Dr. Janet Schulze received the Equity Warrior Award from the organization. (Contra Costa News)
  4. The Board of the San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority is meeting today to discuss decommissioning the Antioch-Pittsburg San Joaquins Passenger Stop. The board will opt to make the East Bay stop for the train at the new Oakley station. "By late 2025, Antioch residents will have access to the new Oakley station, including dedicated parking." The Antioch mayor and City Council are in agreement on decommissioning the Antioch-Pittsburg stop. (Contra Costa News)

  • "The Pittsburg Seafood and Music Festival is delighted to announce its grand return to Old Town Pittsburg on September 9th and 10th, 2023. The festival, a local favorite for over 30 years, is set to make a splash with a weekend filled with the finest seafood, incredible live music, and entertainment for the whole family."
  • "The 29th Annual César E. Chávez Commemorative Celebration will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, in Board Chambers at 1025 Escobar Street in Martinez. Community members can also join the event live on Contra Costa Television channels and the County's website." (Contra Costa News)
  • The Veranda Kids' Club is "excited to welcome back The Dingle Family Farms & Stables petting zoo with a very special magical unicorn pony! Plus, we celebrate the new release of the Super Mario Bros. Movie with some character fun and a special screening at the conclusion of the event (for those with event + movie tickets)!" The event is on April 16 at The Veranda!
