Former Freedom High School Student Sentenced For Criminal Threats
The 20-year-old accused of threatening girls and school staff took a plea deal involving two felonies for stalking and criminal threats.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A 20-year-old Oakley man with ties to Austin, Texas, who made criminal threats to girls and staff at an Oakley school last year has been released on time served, according to Contra Costa County prosecutors. Tristan Curl pleaded not guilty to 10 felonies in December, including child porn charges, after prosecutors said he used the internet to threaten to rape girls, shoot students and kill the principal at Freedom High School.
Curl took a plea deal involving two felonies for stalking and criminal threats. He was sentenced to 300 days in jail, but having been in custody since November he has been released on time served and credits for good behavior, according to prosecutors.
The court has also imposed a 10-year order to stay away from all schools in the Liberty Union High School District, as well as all victims named in the case.

Curl was identified as a suspect after a number of underage girls notified law enforcement about the threats they had received. A local arrest warrant was issued and he was apprehended Nov. 20 in Austin, Texas, where he was attending St. Edward's University.
The investigation spanned two months, involving Oakley police, the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office and the FBI. Prosecutors also thanked police officers in Concord and Austin for their assistance.
