Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. On Thursday, U.S. Representative Josh Harder introduced a bill to stop the permit for the Delta Tunnel. The tunnel would route water from Northern California under the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta to the Central Valley. Reps. John Garamendi, Mike Thompson, and Concord's Mark DeSaulnier have also signed on the Harder's bill. "In a video posted ahead of his formal introduction of the bill, Harder described the tunnel project as 'a $16 billion boondoggle that would poison our farms, ship our water down to Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, and not do a single thing to help our community.'" (The San Joaquin Valley Sun)
  2. The driver of a 2019 Hyundai Elantra was accosted on Sunday near Olympic Boulevard and Pleasant Hill Road, and his car was hijacked. Police gave chase onto Highway 24 and through the Caldecott Tunnel. At least two arrests were made and, thankfully, the victim was reportedly unharmed. (News 24/680)
  3. Have you noticed all of the great stuff going on at the Contra Costa Public Libraries? The library activities are back, and better than ever after the pandemic! "I do think that word has spread about our events, and they are bringing people back into the library," said Addie Spanbock, Concord's adult services librarian. Want to learn more about all of the new programming and people at the library locations? Check out this article from Pioneer Publishers.
  4. Contra Costa County is developing an Arts & Culture Strategic Plan, and you're invited! During the week of March 14, five arts and culture sessions will be held to discuss the plan. "The goal is to guide an arts and cultural planning effort through an inclusive community engagement process that recognizes and respects the geographic and demographic diversity of the County." The events are free and all are welcome. (Contra Costa News)
  5. Eleven applicants applied for an open position on the Pleasant Hill City Council. The council selected four of those applicants to interview at its meeting on February 16. The City Council finalized and published the process that it will use to select the final candidate.
