Healthy Living Expo Planned At Concord Senior Center

There will be health screenings, pharmacist chats, fraud and emergency preparedness info, plus it's free!

From the City of Concord:

Promoting good health awareness and encouraging participants to assume responsibility for their own health are the goals of the Age Strong, Live Long Healthy Lifestyle Expo, a free one-day event set for Friday, Feb. 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Concord Senior Center, 2727 Parkside Circle.

The expo will provide information about services, resources and products that benefit older adults, their families and caregivers. A free tote bag will be distributed to the first 400 attendees. Interactive group sessions will connect participants and local health care resources.

Nurses can earn continuing education credits for attending the presentation called Recognizing and Understanding the Progression of Dementia.

Sessions will offer participants the opportunity to sample juiced fruits and vegetables and learn how to access e-books and digital magazines from the Contra Costa Library. The Concord Police Department will present information about how to avoid financial fraud scams.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will have emergency preparedness information; 13 emergency kits valued at $100 each will be raffled off. Other topics will include emergency pet preparedness, fall prevention exercises, how herbs can be used for health, and selecting best food choices at fast food restaurants.

The Concord Commission on Aging will provide information about the new Taxi Scrip program to help seniors 65 and older access transportation.

Walgreen pharmacists will be available to answer questions about medications and possible interactions. Meet the Pharmacist appointments are limited, so pre-registration is required by calling (925) 671-3320, ext. 1. Bring medications or a list including dosage.

Various health screenings and services provided by Diablo Clinical Research, Senior Helpers, Gurnick, and Dr. Mimi will include cholesterol blood pressure, hearing, memory, heel scans and massage. Signups will be taken the day of the event. Some organizations will be there to recruit volunteers.
