Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- Heat played the "main role" in a BART partial derailment in Concord on Tuesday as it caused a curve in the track, BART officials said. The derailment happened around 5:30 p.m. and involved a 10-car BART train from the tracks near Hastings Drive, David Avenue and Minert Road in Concord. Approximately 50 passengers were evacuated from the derailed train. Only minor injuries were reported. BART said Wednesday morning it was running single-track service in the work area in both the Antioch and SFO directions. The rest of the Yellow Line returned to normal service Wednesday. - De La Salle's Anthony Martinez heads the All-Northern California baseball team as player of the year. The Bay Area News Group Player of the Year batted .411 with a school-record 10 home runs in driving in 44 with just two strikeouts. He's headed to Irvine to start his collegiate career. (MaxPreps)
- After a routine traffic stop Monday at the Chevron station on Oak Grove Road at Treat Blvd a man became confrontational with police. He jumped onto the roof of the station and threatened to set it on fire. A crisis negotiator was called in and eventually the man agreed to come down. "The suspect was booked on suspicion of multiple offenses, including driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, resisting arrest and a multitude of firearms offenses." (Claycord.com)
- At around 5:48 p.m. on Tuesday several suspects attempted to rob four Danville residents who had just parked their car on the 200 block of Hartford Road. A neighbor saw what was happening and engaged the suspects in gunfire. The suspects fled in their vehicle and are still at large. No injuries were reported in the incident. (East County Today)
- The Pittsburg grass fire that ignited in the early morning of June 17 was caused by fireworks, official said. The fire prompted the evacuation of over 2,000 Pittsburg residents and was eventually contained after it burned more than 100 acres of grassland in the open space south of Jacqueline Drive. Investigators are continuing to look for the suspects that set off the fireworks. (News 24/680)
