Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. K9 officer Hancock is a credit to the force. He regularly finds perpetrators and brings them to justice. Saturday night, in Pleasant Hill, K9 Hancock trailed two suspects through the streets, finding them hiding under a car. The suspects quickly surrendered to the K9 officer. Two more perps taken off the streets. Good dog, K9 Hancock! (Concord Police K9 Association via Facebook)
  2. On the heels of Elon Musk's firing of half of the Twitter workforce, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier has authored a bill that he says will mitigate the impact of large corporate labor decisions. In the words from his office, the bill ""cracks down on corporate greed following Elon Musk's unjustified mass layoffs at Twitter." " Federal law currently only requires big corporations to provide 60 days notice to affected employees, states, and localities if they choose to shut down or do mass layoffs, an unreasonable amount of time for working Americans to prepare," according to DeSaulnier. 3. Let's hear it for the K9 officers! This time it was Antioch Police K9 Nox that was the hero. Police in Brentwood saw a carjacked Dodge Challenger out of Stockton and pursued it. The suspects ended up in Antioch and at least one fled the vehicle on foot. How was he captured? You guessed it. K9 Nox picked up his scent and alerted officers. All of the suspects were eventually captured and turned over to the Stockton Police Department. Good dog, K9 Nox! (Antioch Herald)
  4. Several Bay Area Transit options are at risk in a budget crunch precipitated by the pandemic. Ridership is way down across all public modes of transportation and pandemic relief funds are about to dry up, just as inflation is raising costs and a recession looms. Each transit agency has its own solution to the budget crisis, but all entail cutting service. State Sen. Scott Wiener doesn't want to let that happen. He says the possible reductions that are in draft stage would "completely explode congestion on our roads, it would undermine our economic recovery and it would deeply harm low-income workers. We can't let that happen." (Mercury News via MSN)
  5. The 21st annual Pleasanton Weekly Holiday Fund kicks off this week. It is "a time when our news organization asks residents, businesses and community groups in the Tri-Valley to consider donating to support eight local nonprofit beneficiaries this holiday season." Your donation is tax deductible. You can donate to their giving campaign this holiday season, via PleasantonWeekly.com/holiday_fund.
