PACHECO, CA — A homicide investigation was continuing Friday in Contra Costa County after a man was found dead near a local bowling alley. The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office was notified at 12:12 p.m. about a report of a man covered in blood lying on the sidewalk in the 5900 block of Pacheco Boulevard, according to sheriff's office Spokesman Jimmy Lee.

Pleasant Hill police officers were first to arrive at the scene. They performed CPR on the 29-year-old Pacheco man but he was pronounced deceased at the scene, Lee said.

Personnel with the sheriff's crime lab soon responded and launched a homicide investigation that involved shutting down Pacheco Boulevard in both directions. The roadway remained closed for several hours Friday between Center Avenue and Second Avenue, with yellow crime-scene tape used to cordon off the sidewalk area where the victim was found.
