🌱HOT Temps + HOT Football + HOT Real Estate in Concord

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Morning, friends! I'm back with your fresh edition of the Concord Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening in town today.

First, today's weather:

Hot with plenty of sunshine. High: 95 Low: 61.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top five stories today in Concord:

  1. Our own De La Salle goes up against No. 1 ranked Serra, alma mater of Tom Brady, tonight in a game that will be hot in more ways than one. With temps soaring toward triple digits, maybe it's best to stay home and watch it on ESPN. The game will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. tonight, on ESPNU from De La Salle High School in Concord. (Scorebook Live)
  2. Contra Costa County is designating dozens of cooling sites as temperatures soar. The Contra Costa County Library has 21 branches available as places to cool off. They will be open regular library hours and closed Sunday and Monday due to the Labor Day holiday. "The senior center will be open during regular business hours, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and welcomes people to cool off in the lobby. Staff will monitor temperatures and may stay open until 7 p.m. if temperatures remain over 100 degrees. The city will also open the senior center to cool people off from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday through Monday, when it says temperatures are projected to be highest," according to Claycord.com. Brentwood, Oakley and Pittsburg will also have designated cooling off locations. You can find them all in this article. (Claycord.com)
  3. PG&E has several ways to conserve electricity as the temps climb above average. It warns that if residents don't conserve power, outages are more of a risk. Don't worry. They're on it, closely monitoring the grid, with crews ready to respond if needed, but it's asking you to do your part. If an outage does occur, make sure you have a flashlight, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed and have emergency numbers where you can find them. (Claycord.com)
  4. The city of Walnut Creek has announced the closure of all Open Spaces effective through Set. 5 due to excessive heat warnings. This means Shell & Lime Ridge are no longer accessible. (Facebook.com)
  5. Two decades-old cases are capturing the imagination and brain cells of the Tri-Valley. These stories were crimes that captured the nation back in the day. One of the cases has been retold in a docuseries on Apple-TV spiking interest. In the other case, a parole has brought attention back to the original crime. The case of Tina Faelz was part of Apple-TV's "A Time to Kill." This case of the murder of the 14-year-old Foothill High student in 1984 went unsolved for years. The perpetrator, Steven Carlson, ultimately confessed to his parole board. In the other case that's in the news, Chowchilla kidnapper Frederick Woods, who brought his victims to Livermore in 1976 and buried them in a van, was recently released on parole. Both of these stories are told in this article from danvillesanramon.com. (danvillesanramon.com/ subscription may be required)
