Here are the top five stories in Concord today:

  1. A former Walnut Creek resident has been found guilty of selling Twitter users' private information to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Ahmad Abouammo, a former media partnerships manager for Twitter's Middle East/North Africa region was convicted on multiple felony charges by a federal jury. "In this case, the government demonstrated, and the jury found, that Abouammo violated a sacred trust to keep private personal information from Twitter's customers and sold private customer information to a foreign government," U.S. Attorney Stephanie M. Hinds of the Northern District of California said in a statement. Abouammo faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for the charge of acting as an agent of a foreign government and 20 years in prison for each of the other charges for which he was convicted. In addition, each count carries up to a $250,000 fine. (Claycord.com)
  2. Clayton's Diablo View Middle School was a sea of light blue on Thursday as students wore the color to honor Braden Fahey who died last weekend after losing consciousness after a youth football practice Friday evening. Diablo View Middle School principal Peter Fong released a statement through the school district, saying: "Braden was a great friend, a beloved son and brother, a great teammate, an excellent student, and just an overall incredible person. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten." He went on to say that counselors will be at the school for the next several days for students and families who need support. (Bay City News)
  3. Summer is coming to an end, and local schools kicked off the fall semester on Thursday.

  4. Monkeypox is growing in Contra Costa County, and while that might sound alarming, there have been no deaths reported in California due to the disease and only 3% have required hospitalization. All of this information was reported to the board of supervisors for the county on Tuesday. The health officials also told the board that vaccine demand is far outstripping supply, not only in Contra Costa, but across California. There are 1,800 people on the waiting list for the vaccine in the county. "We have been allocated another 1,800 doses in the next big allocation, and those will come in stages throughout the month," county health officer Dr. Ori Tzvieli told the board. (Claycord.com)
  5. The Antioch City Council has tabled a vote on an employee referral and recruitment signing bonus program for the Antioch Police Department. Police Chief Steve Ford told the council that more information was needed to "to build out to make sure you guys have all the information." He was unclear what further information was needed. The council voted 3-0 to table the vote, with two councilmembers absent. Per East County Today "according to sources, the item was tabled after it became clear the Mayor did not have his votes with Torres-Walker and Wilson absent from the meeting." (East County Today)
