Kirker Fire Chars 105 Acres Near Concord, Pittsburg

The rapidly spreading grass fire broke out near Kirker Pass Road and Hess Road, Con Fire said.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Seventy-five firefighters battled a rapidly spreading two-alarm grass fire from the ground and from the air Friday afternoon near Concord and Pittsburg.

The Kirker Fire broke out around 12:15 p.m. in the vicinity of Kirker Pass and Hess roads in Clayton. Shortly before 3 p.m., Con Fire said forward progress was stopped on the wildfire that has burned 105 acres.

Fire investigators determined a malfunctioning vehicle caused the blaze.

No structures were threatened, according to Con Fire, which was battling the Kirker Fire alongside Cal Fire and the East Bay Regional Park District.

According to Con Fire, 75 firefighters from the three agencies tackled the wildfire from the ground and from the air.

Kirker Pass Road remained closed in both directions, according to the Concord Police Department.

Authorities asked the public to avoid the area to allow first responders unimpeded access to the scene.
