Lockdown at Local Schools

Two schools temporarily went on lockdown in Concord on Thursday afternoon

The man called police at 2:48 p.m. and told them he'd ingested drugs to kill himself, Concord police Cpl. Jim Carroll said.

He told the dispatcher he was waiting for his child to be released from school and was standing in front of El Dorado Middle School and Westwood Elementary School on West Street at Forestview Avenue.

Police found the man in front of the schools and sent him to Contra Costa Regional Medical Center for evaluation, Carroll said.

School officials made the decision to go on lockdown while police dealt with the incident, Carroll said.

School officials were unavailable for comment.
