Man Leads Police On Chase To Concord In Stolen Prius

The suspect was arrested after crashing near East and Salvio streets and hiding in a parking garage.

Authorities arrested a Concord man after pursuing a stolen Toyota Prius from Bay Point to Concord on Tuesday, a Concord police corporal said today.

Derioues Wright, 22, was arrested on suspicion of evading officers and possessing stolen property. A Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputy was on patrol in Bay Point around 8 p.m. when the deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop, Concord police Cpl. Chris Blakely said.

Blakely said the driver -- later identified as Wright -- failed to yield to the deputy and led authorities on a pursuit headed south on state Highway 242.

Wright exited the highway at Grant Street in Concord and ultimately crashed the Prius at East and Salvio streets, Blakely said.

Wright ran from the car into a nearby parking garage, but officers and deputies surrounded the perimeter and Wright surrendered without further incident, Blakely said.
