Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. Concord police chief Mark Bustillos delivered a safety update to the Concord City Council. While the crime of rape was down 25% year over year in the city, aggravated assault and burglary were both up by double digits. (Claycord.com)
  2. Did you get caught in the tree removal traffic yesterday on Marsh Creek Road? They're going to be at it again on Monday and Tuesday near Bridges 143 and 145. "The work being done is in preparation for the Marsh Creek Road Bridges Replacement Project that is scheduled to start construction this summer." (Claycord.com)
  3. Joshua Scott Anderson was arraigned in Superior Court on Wednesday on charges of second degree robbery, carjacking, driving or taking a vehicle without consent, and mail theft stemming from an incident that happened in Martinez in February. Anderson allegedly "used force to rob the Postal worker of their key and the mail truck – which contained letters and parcels." He remains in the Martinez Detention Facility following his arraignment. (News 24/680)
  4. A man was carjacked in rural Orinda early Wednesday morning. The victim told police that he was parked at the side of Grizzly Peak Road and Lomas Cantadas when four masked men approached him and took his vehicle. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. (News 24/680)
  5. What looks like a smash and grab robbery took place at Nice Pull in Antioch early Thursday morning. The thieves did substantial damage to the store and got away with some merchandise. The store owners are still calculating damages. (Contra Costa News)
