Here are the top stories in Concord today:
- Concord city officials are apologizing for the construction crew that hit a gas main, causing a fire and taking out power to Mt. Diablo High School and part of Grant Street last Wednesday. "As a city, we take public safety very seriously, and we apologize for the significant inconvenience this incident caused," Concord City Manager Valerie Barone said in a statement. "We also want to assure the community that every construction project undergoes a considerable amount of review and preparation to prevent this type of incident." (Bay City News)
- After more than 40 events this season, the Antioch Speedway will host its season closer this Saturday. "The IMCA sanctioned Modifieds, Sport Modifieds and Stock Cars will be on hand along with the Wingless Spec Sprints, Pacific Coast General Engineering Hobby Stocks and Super Stocks. " Adult tickets are $20, senior, military and kids 5-12 are $15, and kids 4 and younger get in for free. (EastCountyToday)
- Do you get your power from MCE? If so, you may be in for a rate hike. "Bay Area clean electricity provider, MCE, is expected to vote on a potential rate increase at their Board of Directors meeting on December 15, 2022, while still aiming to offer lower rates compared to PG&E. Residents and businesses that receive MCE service are encouraged to attend." The meeting to review the proposed changes will be livestreamed on December 15. - Several disturbing banners were displayed on a pedestrian overcrossing in Walnut Creek. The banners said "It's OK to be pro white" and "White Lives Matter." Walnut Creek Mayor Matt Francois said, "this type of messaging is not welcome in Walnut Creek." Police are investigating where the banners came from. (NBC Bay Area via MSN)
- Concord nursing homes Stonebrook Healthcare Center and Willow Pass Healthcare Center got a 5 out of 5 rating in U.S. News & World Report's 2022-23 Best Nursing Homes. "California led all states, with 206 nursing homes ranked as high performing in short-term care and 148 in long-term care." (Concord Patch)
