Get clued into everything you need to know about in Concord with Patch's daily newsletter.

Up and at 'em, Concord! Let's get you all caught up to start this day off on an informed note. Here's everything happening today in town.
First, today's weather:
Breezy with plenty of sun. High: 75 Low: 49.
Here are the top stories in Concord today:
- The Walnut Creek City Council will explore creating a buffer zone between patients and protesters around Planned Parenthood after hearing at least a half dozen complaints about escalating aggressiveness outside the Oakland Boulevard medical facility. "Our Planned Parenthood affiliate serves 20 counties throughout Northern California, and Walnut Creek is one of the two worst sites of harassment that we are facing," said Gilda Gonzales, the CEO of Planned Parenthood Northern California. After council members expressed a desire to explore creating a buffer zone, city attorney Steven Mattas said, "It is important that when the council considers adopting regulations, that we have a solid basis upon which to identify the need for a regulation, in this instance, because it does impact the constitutional rights (of both sides)." - The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday will likely officially declare misinformation concerning COVID-19 a public health crisis in itself. The declaration, if approved, will commit the board to combatting misinformation and developing and supporting policies to promote evidence-based interventions. (Claycord.com)
- There were some brazen (and, I'm guessing, BIG) criminals out there Saturday night, ramming vehicles into storefronts and wrestling ATMs and safes out of the places of business. It seems surreal, but at least 3 venues were hit overnight in the Concord area and at least one ATM and the criminals that stole it are missing. Be on the lookout for hulk-sized men driving a smashed up van. (News 24/680)
- Today, city councilwoman Jovita Mendoza will propose using a 1 acre parcel of land on a city owned property located at 2001 Shady Willow Lane in the City of Brentwood for a park. Her vision includes an outdoor exercise area. Mendoza pointed out the City of Escondido received a $150k grant for five free outdoor fitness areas—the grant came from the National Fitness Campaign. She is also looking for input from residents. Meeting Info: 7:00 pm, October 12, 2021Public comments can also be submitted via e-mail to citycleark@brentwoodca.gov. (East County Today)
- A 35-year-old man was shot and injured by a Pleasanton police officer after the man confronted the officer with a large sledgehammer at around 4:18 p.m., Sunday, in the 600 block of Trade Street. According to Chief Ronald Sanchez, the man had assaulted an elderly woman and a small child, both relatives of his, before fleeing the scene. Upon his return to the scene, police intercepted him and the situation escalated. The man's condition is unknown at this time. (KSAT.com)
