Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. Charges were filed this week against a Pittsburg man accused of a burglary in Walnut Creek. Witnesses pointed police to a suspect who was later identified as Eduardo Cortes-Rodriguez. Police said they found him walking along Oak Grove Road in Concord. "At this time, the police department is still investigating other residential burglaries and it is unknown if Cortes-Rodriguez is involved in those cases." (Patch)
  2. The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded $28.9 million to the Contra Costa Transportation Authority to help make neighborhoods safer for walking and biking. Two projects in Antioch, one in Crockett and one in Moraga are targets for some of the funds. (Contra Costa News)
  3. A missing Concord juvenile was located safe. The 11-year-old girl went missing between "just northeast of Costco and Ellis Lake Park" on Wednesday. Police used drones and canines to help in the search, and BART was alerted. And all of that teamwork and surveillance resulted in a very happy outcome. Thanks to all who helped! (Claycord.com)
  4. It was quite the sight in a rural area of the Tri-Valley on Wednesday, as a Pleasanton policeman on his trusty steed wrangled a cow that had gone rogue — but not before the bovine took out its aggressions on a nearby Tesla. You knew I was gonna say it.... It was an "udderly" ridiculous sight. (News 24/680)
  5. Diana Becton was sworn in for her second term as Contra Costa County District Attorney. "I am honored to continue as District Attorney of Contra Costa County and serving its residents," Becton said. "In my first term, we made significant progress in improving the criminal justice system and advocating for the rights of our community. I am committed to building on that progress and working tirelessly to ensure that justice is served." (Contra Costa News)
