Here are the top five stories today in Concord:

  1. A 27-year-old Pleasant Hill resident, who appears to be the suspect who twice drove through the doors of the Clayton Safeway, and destroyed several garage doors in the City of Pleasant Hill, has been arrested for making a destructive device, according to the Pleasant Hill Police Department. Pleasant Hill PD Detectives along with the Walnut Creek Police Department Bomb Squad and Clayton PD, executed a search warrant on the 300 block of Longbrook Way. Explosive materials and an explosive device were located. Numerous residents were evacuated. The suspect was arrested without incident and booked into the county jail. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pleasant Hill Police Department at 925-288-4600. (Claycord.com)
  2. San Ramon police are asking for the public's help in finding two teenage girls who were reported as runaways by their families earlier this week. San Ramon police have released photos of the two girls that you can view at the link. Anyone with information on the teens' whereabouts is asked to call the Police Department at (925) 973-2779. 3. Mt. Diablo High School teacher and long-time local restaurateur Cindy Gershen is expanding her passion for educating young and old alike on eating healthy with a television show called "Farm to Taste," co-hosted by her daughter and fellow culinary arts teacher Rose Stein. The latest episode is posted on its "Farm to Taste" YouTube channel. (Pioneer Publishers)
  4. The MDEA Bargaining Team and the MDUSD Bargaining Team met with a fact-finding panel in an attempt to stave off a walkout. Both MDEA and the MDUSD bargaining team members presented their cases to the fact-finding panel for its consideration on Friday, March 18. After numerous hours of work, and after the state-appointed neutral fact-finding panel chair weighed in, the teams have reached a full tentative agreement. You can see the details here. (Pioneer Publishers)
  5. Reports of generally high school-age youths shooting at people or wildlife with Airsoft or paintball guns – most often from moving cars – have been coming in from around the 24/680 corridor in recent weeks. Injuries are running from a nasty welt to spattered clothing but, beyond that, people are concerned about a police and shooter encounter. Officers, most of them dads themselves and aware of how such a confrontation could go wrong, are trying to get the word out that it is not smart to bring a realistic-looking M-16 into a neighborhood at night.
