Mobile Unit Serving Unhoused Residents Unveiled In Contra Costa

CONCORD, CA — A new mobile unit will deliver hot meals and other essential resources to residents experiencing food insecurity and homelessness through Concord’s Mobile Dignity Center.

Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa, Concord officials, community partners, donors, and volunteers will celebrate the vehicle’s launch during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 10.

The City of Concord funded the mobile unit to strengthen Loaves and Fishes’ meal program and support the Mobile Dignity Center.

The Concord City Council unanimously approved a $1.6 million investment in 2025 to establish the center. The initiative brings together Concord, Caminar, Loaves and Fishes, and other community organizations to provide coordinated services for unhoused residents in one welcoming location.

The Mobile Dignity Center operates weekly, offering hot meals, groceries, clothing, hygiene services, housing navigation, mental health support, medical care, and other essential resources.

“This new mobile unit represents far more than a meal,” said Janette Kennedy, executive director of development and external relations for Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa. “It represents hope, dignity, and our shared commitment to ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry. We are deeply grateful to the City of Concord for its vision and partnership in making this possible.”

Loaves and Fishes, Contra Costa County’s only daily hot meal provider, operates five dining rooms, mobile meal programs, grocery distributions, and food recovery initiatives. The organization serves thousands of meals each week to children, families, seniors, veterans, and people experiencing homelessness.

The new vehicle will help Loaves and Fishes reach more residents while supporting Concord’s strategy of providing integrated services through the Mobile Dignity Center.

The ribbon cutting will mark another milestone in the partnership between the City of Concord and Loaves and Fishes.

The ceremony will begin 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 10, at First Christian Church of Concord, 3039 Willow Pass Road.
