Here are the top stories in Concord today:
- Staffing and power issues shut down BART services between Bay Point and Antioch on Tuesday. Tri Delta buses were brought in to shuttle riders between the stations. Service resumed mid-morning, after about three hours of downtime. (Claycord.com)
- The Concord Police Department conducted a DUI enforcement patrol on Saturday, November 5. The dragnet netted zero impaired drivers. "Police will be holding a series of DUI enforcement patrols throughout the year to keep our roadways safe." (Claycord.com)
- "More than 30 members" of the Mount Diablo Harley Owners Group used their own money to purchase food from Grocery Outlet and take it to the food bank on Clayton Road to spread holiday cheer. When management of the Grocery Outlet found out about the charity run, they contributed $350 of their own funds to the effort. All told, the group delivered an estimated 8,000 pounds of food to the food bank. Now that will make for one heckuva cheery holiday! (Pioneer Publishers)
- The Mount Diablo Interpretive Association launched a campaign to raise $3 million for an education center at Mitchell Canyon near Clayton. Mitchell Canyon is on the northwest slope of the mountain, and boasts a small trailer as an education center today. "But the grounds are not ADA compliant, the parking is inadequate, and there is no space for classes, presentations or workshops." The group hopes to change all of that with a new center. (Pioneer Publishers)
- Officials have released some new information in the case of Alexis Gabe, the Oakley woman who went missing in January and whose partial remains were found last week near the town of Plymouth. During a press conference, it was revealed that someone visiting from Alaska found Gabe's remains as they were using their metal detector along Jackson Road near Plymouth. Gabe's father also spoke at the press conference: "While it was that we were praying to find Alexis and lay her to rest, the reality was still devastating to hear. Our hearts were shattered even more than what we thought possible." (SFGate via MSN)
