Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. An arrest was made in a nearly 30-year-old cold murder case. James William Grimsley, currently of Utah, was arrested for the killing of Terrie Ladwig in Concord in 1994. "According to the Gay History Wiki page, which quoted the Contra Costa Times from 1994 stories, Ladwig identified as a woman and was married to Steven Ladwig, who was away in a submarine, then on duty at a Navy base in Bangor, Washington when the murder took place." Mr. Ladwig was quickly cleared by police, but the murderer remained at large until last Thursday. Grimsley is being held in a Salt Lake City jail with a $1 million bail. (Concord Patch)
  2. It was a scary situation for a Walnut Creek woman Wednesday when she arrived home to find an alleged burglar in her house! Both Walnut Creek and Concord police responded. "A Walnut Creek detective soon located a person matching the suspect's description." The 35-year-old man from Pittsburg was arrested on a burglary charge, as well as an outstanding warrant, and booked into the jail in Martinez. (Patch)
  3. We're going to have to deal with the frigid cold until Thursday, when another series of rainstorms is expected to come through. After one storm in the late afternoon Thursday, the other is expected on Saturday. "We're not concerned with any flooding or anything like that. The totals for these next storms are quite low compared to what we saw in early January," said Alexis Clouser, a National Weather Service meteorologist. (Claycord.com)
  4. Pictures were taken of the perp accused of robbing Pleasant Hill coffee shop, Rooted. The surveillance video got a nice shot of his face. Check and see if you recognize him! (Claycord.com)
  5. Concord is having its annual Preschool Open House on February 11. "Families who attend the open house can really get a feel for the environment, the teachers, and the kind of experience their child will have at our preschool," said program coordinator Angela Freitag. You can attend the open house at either Concord Centre or Baldwin Park. The school year opens on March 1! (Pioneer Publishers)
