🌱More Wet Weather Ahead + Concord Is Recruiting
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

Morning, everybody! I'm back in your inbox this morning to walk you through everything you need to know that's happening locally.
- Contra Costa County elementary schools were honored for their academic excellence.
- Marsh Creek and Deer Valley have both reopened — for now.
- Head to Portugal with the Antioch Chamber of Commerce!
But first, today's weather:
A touch of morning rain. High: 60 Low: 51.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our readers to local businesses they need to know. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories today in Concord:
- Wet enough for ya? We're not done yet. In fact, the East Bay is likely to see precipitation pretty much every day through January 19. The next ugly rain, brought in by yet another atmospheric river, is due late Monday. "Rainfall totals early next week will generally be widespread 2-4 inch rainfall totals in the lower elevations with 3-6 inches in the North Bay and coastal mountains while the wettest peaks of the North Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains, and Santa Lucia Mountains, could see up to 10 inches of rain." (Concord Patch)
- A rollover vehicle accident occurred just after midnight Saturday. By the time the police arrived, the driver was no longer with the vehicle. Clayton Road was closed for a short time while authorities towed the vehicle and cleaned up the roadway. (Claycord.com)
- Congratulations to 28 Contra Costa County elementary schools for being honored with the 2023 California Distinguished Schools award by the California Department of Education. Indicators used to evaluate schools that applied for the award included "assessment results, chronic absenteeism, suspension rates, and socioeconomic data." (Claycord.com)
- The City of Concord is recruiting for several of its boards and committees. The Pioneer has a list of open opportunities. If you're interested, get your application in by January 20!
- Many area roads that were closed due to the recent deluge have reopened — for now. Marsh Creek and Deer Valley are probably the most impactful among them. "Public Works is encouraging drivers to use caution with several more storms coming in over the next week. The roads may also be forced to close again if too much rain falls causing similar issues as last week." (Contra Costa News)
Today in Concord:
- Head over to the Walnut Creek Farmers' Market for the best produce of the season. (9:00 AM)
- Paint this beautiful mountain scene on Zen Day at Painting with a Twist in Pleasant Hill. (1:00 PM)
- Don't miss Sunday Sessions at Smith's Landing Seafood Grill in Antioch for some of the Bay Area's best entertainers! (2:00 PM)
From my notebook:
- "The recent storms created quite a mess throughout our community, but we are grateful to our Concord Public Works crew and Concord Police Department officers who worked around the clock to reduce the impacts to the city. Residents picked up approximately 15,000 sandbags from the Corp Yard (1455 Gasoline Alley), and staff worked quickly to clear storm drains prior to the storm." (City of Concord, California via Facebook)
- "You're invited to [Monument Crisis Center's] 20th Anniversary Heartfelt Gala! 💚 Please join us to celebrate this milestone on Feb. 11, 2023 💚 For details and tickets, visit fundraiser.bid/heartfelt2023 💚 See you there!" (Monument Crisis Center via Facebook)
- "Please join the Antioch Chamber of Commerce in experiencing Portugal and the Douro River on the MS Emerald Radiance, October 4-14, 2023. Portugal Trip brochure. FREE AIRFARE when booked and deposited by January 31, 2023." (Antioch Herald)
