Motorist Hospitalized After Hitting Horse On Kirker Pass Road
The horse was euthanized due to severe injuries, and its owner was questioned as to how the animal got in the road, officials said.

CONCORD, CA – A man was hospitalized after hitting a horse that was on the roadway in Concord early this morning, according to police.
Officers responded at 3:47 a.m. to a report of a major-injury collision near the intersection of Kirker Pass Road and Myrtle Drive.
The man, the lone occupant in his vehicle, was driving south on Kirker Pass when he hit the horse. His car then traveled off the roadway and hit a tree along the west curb line, police said.

He was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries. The horse suffered severe injuries and was killed at the scene to end its suffering, according to police.
Contra Costa County Animal Services officials contacted the horse's owner afterward to follow up on how the horse got onto the roadway.

The crash caused the closure of Kirker Pass Road in the area for about three-and-a-half hours.
