Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. Concord resident Mark Navone was sentenced on Friday to 22 years behind bars. Navone was convicted of numerous charges related to throwing objects at moving vehicles. One of the incidents resulted in the death of a 63 year-old grandma from Antioch and another incident resulted in the blinding of a 38 year-old woman from Concord. Navone was arrested on April 2, 2022 and was being held without bail at the Martinez Correctional Facility. (EastCountyToday)
  2. A woman was arrested on drug charges after she and a companion were found passed out in a vehicle at the Clayton Station Shopping Center. The woman was taken into custody for allegedly being in possession of methamphetamine, heroin and drug paraphernalia. Her identity has not been released. (Claycord.com)
  3. The close of registration for the November 8 election is Monday October 24. People who register after that day will not be sent an official ballot in the mail. You can still vote if you register after that day, but you will be required to vote in person. Contra Costa "voters can conveniently register to vote online at https://registertovote.ca.gov or complete a voter registration card, which is available at most post offices, city halls, and libraries throughout Contra Costa County. Online registration must be completed before midnight on October 24th. Paper registration cards must be postmarked by October 24th." (East County Today)
  4. Several local officials joined biking enthusiasts on Mt Diablo last weekend in a ceremony marking the completion of 30 new bike turnouts on the mountain. The project was accelerated thanks to State Senator Steve Glazer and Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan who pushed at the legislative level to speed up the construction. "The new bike turnout lanes on Mount Diablo will make it safer for cyclists and motorists to get up and down the mountain, making this precious resource more accessible to the region's residents and to visitors," Glazer said in a statement. So take advantage of this gorgeous fall weather and take your bike up Mt Diablo! And thank those who made the turnouts a reality. (danvillesanramon.com)
