Here are the top fivestories in Concord today:
- Even BART is feeling the heat. The extreme heat caused "a minor deviation in a small section of track" and shut down service between the Pleasant Hill and Concord stations on Tuesday night. The tracks have since reopened and service has returned to normal. According to SFGate "Officials with the transit agency had said the track problems amid triple-digit temperatures were exacerbated by heat-related problems with equipment along the tracks that prevented any train service from going between Concord and Pleasant Hill on Tuesday. Bus shuttles were provided to take riders between the two stations." (SFGate)
- Quick! Go look in your barn and see if you have a 55 year old Mustang forgotten under the clutter. Apparently, it could be worth $125,000! That happened to someone here in Concord and they're now selling their ride through CarBuffs. "While it's covered in a thick layer of dirt, the Mustang appears to be in excellent condition," autoevolution says. Nice find! (autoevolution.com)
- Devin Williams Jr., a deputy with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, has turned himself in after being the target of a manhunt in regard to the killing of a couple in Dublin. Both victims, whose names were not immediately released, were pronounced dead at the scene. Williams, who lives in Stockton, called authorities in the hours after the slayings, saying he wanted to turn himself in. Officers stayed on the phone with him until he was apprehended. (KCRA3)
- An elderly woman lost both her car and her puppy to a carjacker at a Chevron in Walnut Creek on Wednesday. The suspect reportedly drove the vehicle to the area of 18th and Carvello Road in Antioch. Ultimately, he was apprehended and the car and the dog, Madie, were returned to their rightful owner. (Claycord.com)
- According to a press release from Contra Costa County Health, starting Tuesday, Contra Costa County will provide monkeypox (MPX) vaccine at county-run vaccination sites to all gay, bisexual and other men or trans people who have sex with men. "After months of MPX vaccine being scarce, we now have enough supply to vaccinate more people and provide more protection in the community," said Dr. Ori Tzvieli, health officer for Contra Costa County. "Vaccines offer excellent protection against MPX and help reduce spread of the virus."(cchealth.org)
