Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. Two new alleged victims have been identified in the case of a Bay Area guitar teacher who, despite earlier convictions for sex abuse, continued to give lessons to kids. Rex Bell, 69, "faces 25 charges of child molestation related to three alleged victims, plus one felony count of having child pornography on his electronic devices." There may still be more victims. Anyone with information should call San Ramon police at 925-973-2779, or email Detective Brady McKinney at bmckinney@sanramon.ca.gov. (The Mercury News)
  2. A press release from the Contra Costa County Public Library introduces us to a local hero: "This month, we're excited to introduce you to a community member and library patron who is making a positive difference in the lives of East Bay Veterans, Veterans in Person Services contact Buck Carmichael." He helps veterans transition to civilian life and advocates for them when claims are filed with the Department of Veteran Affairs. (Concord Patch)
  3. Our Pleasant Hill men in blue are on it! They made two more arrests Thursday in a spate of shoplifting incidents that popped up in the city and surrounding areas. In one of the incidents the suspect allegedly stole $4,250 worth of over-the-counter medication from Safeway. The names of the suspects have not been released. (Claycord.com)
  4. Here's a painful reality: Sunset will come at 5:03 p.m. in Concord on Sunday. Oh, the joys of the end of daylight savings time. Most Americans will "fall back" with us, but Arizona and Hawaii only recognize standard time. We'll be aligned with them, for now. (Concord Patch)
  5. Workers at 13 dialysis clinics, including some in the East Bay, have filed to join the United Healthcare Workers West union. "Working conditions are so tough that even basic patient care is a huge challenge," said Eugene Dela Peña, a dialysis technician at a Fresenius clinic in San Francisco. "Our workloads keep increasing, staffing levels are too low, and we don't feel valued." (East County Today)

From my notebook:

  • "Rotary Club of Concord [is] hosting Ukrainian Doctors & Hospital Administrators while they visit the Bay Area to learn how to rebuild their Trauma & Medical Centers. Come hear their real stories why they came & how Rotary made it happen on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 6pm at Lehmer's Concord." (Rotary Club of Concord via Facebook)
