Newhall Park to Get New Playground

Perhaps what is one of Concord's nicest community parks will soon become even nicer. 

The city is expected to approve Tuesday a $107,472 contract with a Novato company to begin the process of shipping and installing new playground equipment to Cowell Neighborhood's Newhall Community Park.

The contract is the first in a $245,000 project to add and improve to the amenities of the park, which already features popular bocce courts and a busy dog area, known as the "Paw Patch."

From the city:

"With a variety of uses available, as well as the surrounding residential area with many young families, there has been an ever increasing need to provide a playground designed for use by both toddlers and young children," according to a city report. "The new playground area will include colorful swings, climbing toys, multiple slides, rocking toys, and climbing structures geared for both toddlers (2-5 year-olds) and older kids (5-12 year-olds)."

The $245,000 project will be paid for with $221,800 from Measure WW bond funds and $23,800 in City of Concord Parkland funds.

The entire project, which will also include infrastructure construction and improvements, is expected to be completed some time in Novemember, 2012.
