Here are the top five stories in Concord today:
- Carlyn Obringer has conceded the Contra Costa County District 4 Supervisor race to Debora Allen and Ken Carlson. Obringer trailed Allen by only 512 votes in one of the lowest Primary Election turnouts in history. Only 18% of registered Contra Costa voters voted in the primaries, mirroring the turnout statewide. - Love the sleek design and zippy get-up-and-go of Corvettes? Head out to to the 50th annual Vette-O-Rama this weekend at Todos Santos Plaza! And if you own one of the iconic vehicles, it's not too late to register it for the show. Admission is free, and the event will include a raffle for more than 35 gift baskets. Visitors can vote for Kid's and People's Choice Awards and entrants will also be eligible for other prizes. (Pioneer Publishers)
- A white Toyota Sienna was carjacked at gunpoint in the Safeway parking lot at 4309 Clayton Road in Concord on Saturday. According to reports, the owner of the vehicle was physically assaulted and the carjacker was able to take the car while brandishing the weapon. No injuries were reported. (News 24/680)
- John Muir Land Trust partnered with Volunteers for Outdoor California (V-O-Cal) over the weekend of May 19-22 to create trails through the hillside up to Painted Rock in Moraga. According to V-O-Cal Project Team Lead and JMLT Board Member Eliot Hudson, "Over 70 trail volunteers and over a dozen more volunteers in the supporting base camp, in the course of a single weekend, built over 2,000 feet of trail across Painted Rock's steep northern slope on a gentle grade that virtually anyone can walk." So, now that the heat has broken, go check out Painted Rock! It's a fun landmark and the views are incredible! (Lamorindaweekly.com)
- The City of Oakley allocated $180,000 from its ARPA funds to local non-profits. On Tuesday it is set to finalize the allocations. A total of 14 nonprofits are being recommended by staff for a total of $173,150 allocated. The rest of the funds will be held for supplemental awards in the future. - The City of Clayton is accepting applications for planning commissioner through Wednesday June 15. There are three vacant commissioner offices expiring on June 30. See the qualifications and snag an application at this link.
