Pedestrian In Critical Condition After Hit On Monument Blvd. In Concord

The 36-year-old driver is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – A 52-year-old man suffered major injuries Saturday evening when an SUV struck as he was walking in Concord, according to police.

Around 7:52 p.m., officers responded to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian in the 1500 block of Monument Boulevard, police said.

After a preliminary investigation, officers determined the victim was crossing Monument Boulevard when a 1998 blue Ford Explorer struck him.

The driver, a 36-year-old man, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to police.
The victim was taken to a hospital where he is listed in critical condition, police said.

Monument Boulevard was initially closed for about three hours but has since reopened. Officers are continuing to investigate what caused the crash, according to police.
