Here are the top stories in Concord today:

  1. While patrolling the Target parking lot in Pleasant Hill on Wednesday, an officer was flagged down about a "push out theft." The officer's trusty companion, K9 Officer Kuhn nabbed one of the perps and the patrol officer found another in a nearby bathroom. Five shopping carts of merchandise were recovered. Both suspects were booked into the county jail. (Claycord.com)
  2. Two recount requests were received by the Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder-Elections Department for November 8 races in the county. The first is for the Antioch District 1 City Council race that saw incumbent Tamisha Torres-Walker win with just three more votes than her opponent. The second request came from the Richmond District 2 City Council race, where a tie was recorded between Andrew Butt and Cesar Zepeda. State law says that the requestor must bear the cost of the recount. (Claycord.com)
  3. Whether you want to cheer for Tiny Tim, root for Cinderella or just meet Mrs. Claus, the Lesher Center in Walnut Creek is where you want to be this month. It's presenting traditional classics, like Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" and newer entrants to our holiday celebrations like "The Biggest Gift." All of the shows are set to warm your heart this Christmas season. (Pioneer Publishers)
  4. The Clayton Police Department is welcoming back former officer Richard McEachin, this time as its new Chief of Police! McEachin started his career in Clayton in the 2000s. Take a look at his picture and notice that, as he says, "growing up, when I was 3 or 4 years old, my grandmother had a little police uniform made for me, and it was really all I ever wanted to do." Law enforcement runs in his family, and he's built his career in small-town policing, so he should be right at home back in Clayton. (Pioneer Publishers)
  5. The Contra Costa County Office of Education released its annual report. Some great accomplishments were offset by declining enrollment this past fiscal year. You can see the full report at cocoschools.org/annualreport. (Contra Costa News)

  • "Every year the outgoing mayor honors someone who has gone above and beyond for the Concord community. During the Dec. 6 meeting, Dominic Aliano recognized Jacqueline Smith with the Mayor's 2022 Community Service Award. " (City of Concord, California via Facebook)
  • "The Monument Crisis Center annual Holiday Food Box distribution is underway! "Thanks to your incredible donations, our food pantry gave out 653 Holiday Food Boxes this week. To feed every family this holiday season, we will need 1,500 more boxes. Donations can be dropped off Mondays-Wednesdays from 9am-noon." (Monument Crisis Center via Facebook)
  • "Here's a sampling of the latest batch of new houses to go up for sale in the Concord area — including a house with 3 beds and 2 baths for $750,000, and another with 4 beds and 2 baths for $945,000." (Concord Patch)
