🌱Pittsburg Fire Evacuations + San Ramon At Risk For Fire Danger

Here are the top five stories in Concord today:

  1. San Ramon has a major risk of wildfires over the next few decades, according to First Street's Risk Factor website. 24,141 San Ramon properties were identified as at risk for wildfire damage over the next 30 years, representing 100 percent of all properties. "Summer in California no longer means the beginning of fire season. Rather, it means we are about to enter the roughest six or so months of a fire season that never ends," said Bill Deverell, director of the Huntington-USC Institute on California and the West and head of The West on Fire research project.   2. DUI is suspected in a crash Wednesday on Byron Highway that claimed one life and left nine other people injured, authorities said. The preliminary investigation indicated an Acura sedan was traveling southbound on Byron Highway and a Suburban carrying nine passengers was traveling northbound when the driver of the Acura allowed their car to cross the double-yellow lines into the path of the Chevrolet. Eight people in the Suburban suffered moderate injuries and one passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Acura, who was alone in the car, suffered minor injuries and was booked into the Martinez jail on suspicion of DUI, the CHP said. (Concord Patch)
  3. A message in The Pioneer from Mayor Dominic Aliano stresses the fun there is to have during summer in Concord! He gives you his take on everything from Music and Market to Creative Concord and urges you not to miss all of the splashing good water fun Concord has to offer. He ends with "summer is a time to relax, have fun, enjoy time with friends and family and connect with your neighbors. I hope you take advantage of all that our great community has to offer."   4. On June 17, Contra Costa District Attorney Diana Becton and U.S. Department of Labor Assistant District Director for San Jose Alberto Raymond signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the District Attorney's Office in Martinez that commits resources to prosecute criminal wage theft cases to curtail labor trafficking, unfair business practices, payroll tax evasion and wage and hour violations. Becton will create a Workplace Justice Unit to ensure compliance.   5. A fire broke out at 2 a.m. Friday morning in the 2200 block of Jacqueline Drive off Daffodil Drive and Serrano Way prompting multiple evacuations in the City of Pittsburg. By 4 a.m., according to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, it had grown to 125 acres. "According to Contra Costa County Fire spokesperson Steve Hill, the fire threatened approximately 100 homes and had it not been for proper weed abatement taken seriously, several homes would have gone up in flames." Con Fire is still investigating. The cause of the fire is not yet known. (East County Today)
