🌱Pittsburg Shooting Update + East Bay Fall Hikes + Martini Monday

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Concord.

(Patch Media)

Hey, friends! It's me, Jeri Karges, your host of the Daily. Here's all the local news you need to know right now, including:

  • A motorcyclist died in an accident in Martinez on Friday.
  • Bust a gut at a live comedy show at Vinnie's!
  • Have a wonderful, free day at a new museum you've never tried before.

But first, today's weather:

Times of clouds and sun. High: 76 Low: 54.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories today in Concord:

  1. A motorcyclist died at approximately 7:30 on Saturday night when he collided with a Jeep and was thrown from his motorcycle. The accident happened at Alhambra and Truitt avenues in Martinez. According to witnesses, the victim was wearing a "half helmet" at the time. The driver of the Jeep stayed on scene and contacted emergency services. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. (News 24/680)
  2. The CEO of a company that uses proprietary software to manage poll worker data and assignments has been arrested on suspicion of theft of worker's personal identification information. The alleged data theft happened to workers in the LA area. Contra Costa County uses the same software, but it has been determined that no Contra Costa data was included in the alleged breach. (Contra Costa Herald)
  3. In an update to a story that we brought you yesterday regarding a woman and young child who were shot in Pittsburg Friday night, authorities confirm that both victims are recovering in the hospital and are currently in stable condition. Per East County Today "the preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were traveling on Civic Avenue when another car collided with them. The driver of that car fired multiple rounds into their vehicle. The victim's car became incapacitated and the suspect vehicle fled the scene." Authorities do not believe this was a random incident as the suspect and victim allegedly knew one another. (East County Today)
  4. A rollover accident closed part of Crow Canyon Road in San Ramon on Saturday. The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. and the victims reportedly sustained "severe injuries." No other details were available. (News 24/680)

Today in Concord:

  • Try Martini Monday at Smith's Landing Seafood Grill in Antioch. Signature cocktails just $6 all day long. (All Day)
  • Paint a Harvest Moon River at Painting with a Twist in Pleasant Hill. (7:00 PM)
  • Mean Dave hosts live comedy at Vinnie's Bar in Concord. (7:30 PM)

From my notebook:

  • It is absolutely gorgeous out there, Concord! So lace up your hiking boots and head out. Walnut Creek Magazine has "Five of The Best Bay Area Fall Hikes" just for you! See you on the trails!
  • "Bedford Gallery presents The Harmon & Harriet Kelley Collection of African American Art: Works on Paper, an exhibition that celebrates 54 African American artists and their tremendous contributions to U.S. art and culture." Check it out!
  • Want to go to a museum for free, but it's not free museum day? No worries! There are plenty of museums that don't charge an entrance fee. The Concord Library has rounded up a list of them in Northern California. There's even one in the San Lorenzo Valley, where I grew up!
